How to Maintain Fitness During the Monsoon Season Without Going out?

Keep yourself fit during the monsoon season.
Monsoon brings joy along; even the birds and animals around you seem to enjoy the rain. Especially, the first rain is a pleasant welcome to all suffering from the scorching heat of the sun. The rain, thunder, pleasant weather and chirping of birds around you all seem to sweep in positive vibes. However, beware of the food that you eat during this season. The spicy and fried food with a sip of your favorite beverage can actually cause weight gain. The lack of outdoor exercise combined with improper monsoon eating habits can result in excess weight gain.

How to maintain Fitness without going out?

Exercise is the most essential part of the monsoon health schedule. It is essential to look for other options to stay active, fit and healthy. Read on to know how you can make the best use of the monsoon season to stay fit and active.

Dance indoors

Everyone loves listening to pleasant music during the monsoon. So, why not combine this with some dance steps. The dance can be with the partner or a solo dance can be enjoyed in the privacy of your room without any hitch.
Dancing is a cardio-vascular activity that helps in stretching the body, and burning the extra calories. A great fun alternative to brisk walking is dancing. So, why not enjoy it without bothering about the steps or trying to be good in the eyes of other.

Basic warm up and stretching exercises
A basic warm up is very essential for everyone in all seasons. A good warm up by way of brisk walk or jogging suits all age groups, increases the heart rate metabolism and makes it easy for the muscles of the body to stretch. The monsoon season does not permit brisk walking or a jogging, but basic stretching exercise is important before any kind of strenuous activity. Old people are actually advised to do stretching exercises early morning to avoid muscle cramps and pains. So, what do you do during the monsoon season when you cannot go out for walks? Here’s a solution.

One can just start walking around the room briskly for 15 minutes with a marching attitude lifting the hands to shoulder level. Then, do the following exercise:

·        Surya-namaskar at least 5 times;
·        Sit ups for 10 times;
·        Rotate your head up-down, left-right and in a circular manner;
·        Stretch the arms sideways and turn your body back;
·        Rotate your arms clock-wise and anti-clockwise;
·        Rotate the shoulders keeping the palm on the shoulders clock-wise and anti-clockwise;
·        Stretch your arms sideways and rotate only the palms clock-wise and anti-clockwise;
·        With the stretched arms, bend sideways and touch your feet with your palms;
·        Rotate your hip clock-wise and anti-clockwise;
·        Stretch your hip forward and backward;
·        Lift your legs forward up to hip level, one leg at a time;
·        Lift your legs sideways up to hip level, one leg at a time;
·        Stretch your legs backwards, one leg at a time;
·        Rotate your feet clock-wise and anti-clockwise;
·        Lift your hands up, bend backwards, come forward and bend forward with your palms touching your feet.

Undertake household activities
Take up pending household activities during the monsoon season. Clean the racks, lofts can be done now which had been waiting for quite long. This physical activity not only helps to keep fit, but also helps to avoid insects creeping in during the monsoons. Not only does your home remain spic and span, the act of bending and stretching during the clean-up helps to make up for the lack of outdoor exercise. The entire family can join to do these household chores which can be fun and exercise for all. Even smaller household chores like sweeping, cleaning the floors, dusting the fans, removing cobwebs from the roof, cleaning the vessels, ironing clothes or just dusting consume energy and helps one to keep fit.

Climb the stairs
Walk up and down the stairs for 20 minutes each day. This can provide the body with the requisite fuel for a workout. If you live in a duplex flat, stair-climbing can be the best exercise that you can do without disturbing others. Consider it as a treadmill, and start climbing it regularly within a specific time schedule or a specific number of counts. If you do not have stairs nearby, take a wooden box and climb up and down to gain the same effect of climbing stairs.

Get playful
Playing ball games at home with children can be a good exercise as well as fun. All the children games and rolling activities can drain the entire energy out of the body. A small basketball net can be a good option as jumping and stretching can burn calories easily. Similarly, a boxing bag can be great fun filled exercise activity at home.

Go green gardening
A person with an interest in gardening can develop an indoor garden and cater to those plants regularly during the monsoon season. All gardening activities including digging, weeding, seeding, watering, and fertilizing involve physical activity and act as a moderate work out. Moreover, the company of plants and beautiful flowers can add a dash of freshness and vigor within you.

Go window-shopping
The bright and pleasant atmosphere during the monsoon season definitely adds more pleasure to the shopping activity, isn’t it? I am actually recommending the shopping at malls where one can walk long distances and do some window-shopping. Shopping is proven to boost a person’s mood and a long walk within the mall can help you combine exercise with happiness. This exercise will be very minimal compared to games and gym, but you can keep your body and mind in a joyful mood.

The monsoon is known to bring happiness and pleasure. You can plan your exercises, eat light food and welcome the rain God in a pleasant manner rather than brooding over weight gain and inactivity.
